Art meets Biodiversity

The project ‘Art meets Biodiversity’, organised by InUrFaCE, brings together street artists and scientists from the field of biodiversity research. In workshops, they jointly develop ideas for murals that ‘jump in your face’ in public, making the beauty and importance of biological diversity visible to everyone. Find out what this has to do with you here.

Background

Biodiversity or biological diversity encompasses the diversity of all animal and plant species, the diversity of all habitats and the genetic diversity within the various species. It is the basis of human existence, as it ensures human sustenance, health and well-being. In recent decades, the decline in biodiversity has accelerated dramatically as a result of human activities. Despite the escalation of the situation, public awareness of the ongoing biodiversity crisis has unfortunately remained low. The InUrFaCE association is therefore attempting to address this future-relevant and scientifically sound topic artistically and to sensitize people to it on an emotional level.

InUrFaCE e. V.

InUrFaCE (Initiative of Urban Facades Creature Exposition) is a non-profit association based in Cologne that draws on an international network of scientists from biodiversity research and street artists. The association organizes projects in which interdisciplinary cooperation results in large-scale painted facades in public spaces. The aim is to increase the appreciation of biodiversity in society through art and to create the basis for a more conscious use of nature’s resources.
